Objective

Student knows most important chemical and physical properties of the materials to be transported by sea, the spontaneous reactions of chemicals, the prevention of above mentioned reactions, the elements of danger of materials to human being, vessels and environment. Student will learn to take dangerous materials into consideration in the loading planning, know the legislation related to the transport and the codes used, separation regulations and documentation and declaration procedures.

Content

Chemistry of combustion, steam pressure of fluid and solutions, hydrostatic pressure, state of matter, thermal expansion, density, reduction-oxidation reactions, acids and bases, salts as bulk cargo. Legislation related to the transport and cargo planning of dangerous materials, IMDG, IMSBC, IBC and BCH codes where applicable.
