EEMI19SPEnvironmental Engineering, full-time studies
Objective
This course provides the basic tools needed to understand the environmental behavior chemicals. Environmental chemistry is the study of the sources, reactions, transport, effects and fates of chemicals in water, soil, air and living environments. As such, it provides the fundamental scientific basis required for dealing with almost any environmental area, including pollution control, regulation, risk assessment and hazardous waste management and minimization.
Content
What are the environmental effects of a range of priority pollutants?
What are the chemical reactions and reaction kinetics, equilibrium reactions, solubility and thermodynamics affecting the environmental fate of chemicals?
How to develop strategies to assess and monitor the inorganic and organic contamination of different environmental spheres?
How to identify hazards, evaluate chemicals and assess risks?
Materials
Materials for the course will be found from the Learn.
