Objective

Gerontological nursing
You can apply information on changes resulting from aging in your nursing work.
You know how to promote the health, ability to function and resources of an aging person utilizing nursing methods and medication.
You can carry out safe medication for an elderly person and understand the special features of the elderly.
You can apply information on memory disorders, treating people with memory disorders and the associated services.
You can apply evidence-based information in gerontological nursing.

Palliative nursing
You know how to recognise the need for palliative or terminal care of a patient.
You know the palliative care service system.
You know how to make a treatment plan for the final stages together with the patient and his/her family, the doctor and other multiprofessional team members.
You can carry out nursing based on symptoms and humane palliative and terminal care.
You can apply evidence-based information in nursing palliative patients.

What are elderly care and geriatrics?

The prerequisite for participating in the course is that you have completed Clinical Nursing Theory (5 credits). If you have any questions about this, send a message to the teachers of the course before registering.

Assessment methods and criteria

In order to obtain a grade in a course, the learning assignments and exams of the course must be passed. The grade of the course consists of the average of the numerical evaluation of the parts of the course, taking into account the weighting factors according to the scope of the parts.

The student has participated in Professional basics in nursing (25 ECTS credits) and Nursing in medical wards (5 ECTS credits)
