- bridge watchkeeping as a deck officer
- comprehensive knowledge of International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea
- navigation in traffic separation schemes
- using visual message signals

- International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea
- rules for inland waterways
- navigation within traffic separation schemes and principles of bridge watch
- navigation in VTS-area
- signals by Morse light
- signal flags
- International Code of Signals
