Teaching methods
Scheduled track:
The student will be introduced to event and entertainment terminology and will be able to identify the objectives, purpose and feasibility of an event.
This course is designed to introduce the student to the planning and management of special events and festivals. The highly interdisciplinary course addresses the systems, tools and checklists necessary for successful festival and event planners.
Blended track:
Student will get a combination of class discussions, lectures, student presentations and other in-class activities.
The course also includes independent studying.

Assessment methods and criteria
After successfully completing this course, students should be able to accomplish the following:
- apply a systematic approach to the research, design, planning, implementation, and evaluation of festivals and community events.
- apply the principles of marketing to the process of event production.
- assess the viability of an event during the early stages of planning.
- apply sound human resource management techniques in order to organize and motivate event volunteers and staff.
- coordinate the logistical and operational details of an event.
- identify and plan for potential risks inherent in an event.
- evaluate the success of an event.

The student is able to:
- identify the terminology of tourism in event management
- classify the types of events and explain their role in contributing to a destination’s sense of place
- describe the difference between sponsorship and donations
- explain the role and importance of volunteers
- explain the steps necessary to create a successful event
