Objective

You know how to justify the methods and the role of instructors of adventure education from the perspective of experiential learning theory. You can recognize the professional possibilities of adventure education in the field of civic activities and youth work. You know the laws and regulations that govern the safety of adventure education and you are able to use them in planning and carrying out your own adventure. You demonstrate your familiarity with the International Award Programme and understand its role in the Finnish youth work sector.

Content

What kind of philosophical and educational theoretical foundations do adventure education and the International Award Programme base on? What kind of educational and experiential opportunities do adventures offer and what is required from the instructors? What are the methods that can be used in adventure education? How can the risks involved in adventure activities be controlled? What is the content of the International Award Programme?

a.You are able to consistently use professional concepts related to adventure education. b. You are able to search information from key information sources. c. You are able to identify the different functions in adventure education and the International Award Programme. d. You are able to work in the environment of adventure activities of your choice and you can describe the activity from an educational perspective. f. You are able to work in a target-oriented manner during different phases of adventure activities.

Qualifications

Attending the course requires basic skills and experiences in camping and camp life, completing the course of Camp activities, or equivalent skills.
