Communication Skills for Specialists (5cr)

Objective

You recognize your strengths and weaknesses and systematically maintain and develop your communicational competence for professional purposes.
You write texts that meet the standards for form, content and linguistic accuracy required in your studies and working life. You are able to use up-to-date instructions and appropriate sharing tools and media.
You deepen your expertise in meetings, negotiations and presentations.
You have a good command of style required in written and oral professional communication.

Content

How to maintain and develop communication competence for professional purposes (oral situations, written texts)?
How to recognise a text that meets standards for style, form, content and instructions for linguistic accuracy in professional communication? How to select appropriate media for publishing texts?
How to deepen your skills in meetings, negotiations and presentations?
Following your needs, the course content can have an extend of 1–5 ETCS credits and include following elements:
Presentation Skills 1 cr
Negotiations and Meetings 1 cr
Trends in Professional Communication 1 cr
Standard Writing 1 cr
Reporting and Academic Writing 1 cr

Evaluation

Communication Skills for Specialists represents advanced level know-how and skills. The assessment is mainly based on the criteria a, b, e and g. The grade 3 means that the students can
a) use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations.
b) evaluate information sources critically.
e) choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices.
g) apply critically the ethical principles of the professional field in different situations.

The course will be accepted if the student fills the the criteria described above.

Study forms and methods

• Opetus toteutetaan kokonaan lähiopetuksena kampuksella lukujärjestyksen mukaan. Etäosallistuminen ei ole mahdollista. Lähiopetusta ei lähtökohtaisesti tallenneta, eikä sitä korvata etäluennoilla silloin, kun lähiopetusta annetaan lukujärjestyksen mukaan. Osa opetuksesta tapahtuu laboratorioympäristössä/simulaatioympäristössä. Läsnäolo simulaatioharjoituksissa/suullisissa harjoituksissa/työelämävierailuilla on välttämätöntä opintojakson suorittamiseksi.
• Opiskelu rytmittyy työjärjestyksen mukaisten ryhmätapaamisten ja itsenäisesti tehtävien/ryhmässä tehtävien oppimistehtävien mukaan. Opintojakso koostuu xxx luento-opetuskerrasta ja tunnilla tehtävistä yksilö ja pienryhmätehtävistä. Lisäksi tehdään projektitehtävä/harjoitustyö/simulaatioharjoitus/osaamisen näyttö.
• Opettajan ohjausta saatavilla lähituntien yhteydessä ja ....
• Arvioitavat tehtävät tehdään itsenäisesti/ryhmänä/paritöinä.
• Opintojaksolla hyödynnetään erilaisia palautteenantotapoja. Niitä voivat olla esimerkiksi kirjallinen ja suullinen palaute. Lisäksi voidaan hyödyntää myös vertaispalautteenantoa
• Opintojakso koostuu kahdesta osa-alueesta, jotka arvioidaan erikseen: xxxx 3op ja xxxx 2 op. Tarkempi kuvaus kohdassa toteutuksen osat.

RDI and work-related cooperation

Opintojaksolla vierailee työelämän edustajia.
Opintojaksolla tehdään työelämävierailu/ja / simulaatioita työelämää vastaavissa ympäristöissä.
Opintojakson oppimistehtävät perustuvat työelämän toimeksiantoihin.
Opintojaksolla tehdään työelämäprojekti ryhmätyönä. (Kuvaa tarkemmin)
Mahdollisuus hyödyntää opintojakson harjoitustöitä työelämätoimeksiannon tai oman tuotteen kehittämiseen.

Timing of exams and assignments

Opintojaksolla suoritetaan kunkin osion päätteeksi oppimistehtävä. Opintojakson viimeisellä lähiopetuskerralla tehdään tentti/Opintojakson päätteeksi tentti Exam-tenttiakvaariossa kampuksella/Opintojakso ei sisällä erillistä tenttiä.

Opintojaksolla on viikoittaisia tehtäviä. Opintojakson aikana tehdään ryhmissä projektitehtävä, jonka tulee olla valmiina opintojakson päättymispäivään mennessä.

Kurssi päättyy toteutuksen tiedoissa ilmoitettuna aikana, johon mennessä opiskelija on palauttanut suoritukseen vaadittavat harjoitustehtävät, suorittanut mahdolliset tentit ja täyttänyt muut hyväksytyn suorituksen vaatimukset.

Student workload

• 1 op vastaa noin 27 tuntia opiskelijan työtä. Työmäärä kuitenkin riippuu opiskelutaidoista ja aiemmasta osaamisesta.
• 5 op:n opintojaksolla opiskelijan työmäärä on n. 135 t, josta n. xx t on työjärjestyksen mukaisesti luentoja ja ryhmätyöskentelyä opettajan ohjauksessa sekä n. xx t itsenäisesti työstettäviä oppimistehtäviä.
