Objective

The student learns the process of publishing an informative magazine (Insider) in English both in digital and printed format. The aim of the magazine is to increase communication and cultural understanding, promote teamwork and independent thinking.

Content

How to produce a weekly magazine.
How to write student oriented articles.
How to carry out interviews, report on events, photograph happenings and persons.
How to conduct editorial meetings, and develop the magazine.

Evaluation

Students are able to
· look for information in the key information sources of the field.
· use the key models, methods, software and techniques of the professional field.
· work as team members in a goal-oriented way
· justify their actions according to the ethical principles of the professional field

Study forms and methods

Studying is carried out through independent writing and publishing of articles as part of an editorial team.

RDI and work-related cooperation

Students will attend events on and off campus, company visits, and various activities in the course of writing articles and conducting interviews.

Timing of exams and assignments

No examination, articles need to be published weekly according to deadlines

Student workload

Weekly articles to be published online during academic semesters and attending weekly editorial meetings.

Further information

The course is from 5-10 credits depending on the amount of hours according to the student's own logbook of activities.

Qualifications

Good written and spoken English, Finnish language is a bonus. Outgoing personality, team spirit and a keen interest in attending events and writing about them.
