Research and development skills (5cr)

Objective

Common learning outcomes (as implemented in degree programmes) 2 ECTS credits:

You know the general stages in a research and development process.
You are able to search for information in the key information environments of your own field.
You are able to read, critically evaluate and utilize the literature and research publications of your own field.
You are familiar with and able to apply the principles of research ethics and reliability.
You are able to compose a literature review based on the materials published in your field of study and your own bachelor’s thesis following the principles of scientific communication.

You are familiar with the current research subjects and development needs of your own field.
You are familiar with and able to apply the key development approaches and/or research methods and ethical principles of your own field.
You are able to report on a research or development process following the principles of professional and scientific communication.

Content of common learning outcomes, 2 ECTS credits:

What are the phases into which a research and development process can be divided?
How do you find, read and critically evaluate the research data of your own field?
How do you write a literature review that utilizes reliable research data and is linked to your own field and bachelor’s thesis following the principles of ethical scientific communication?

What are the key research subjects and development needs in your own field?
What are the development approaches and/or research methods in your own field and how do you apply them in practice based on the development needs of your own field?
How do you report a research or development process following the principles of ethical professional and scientific communication in your own field?

Evaluation

The student is able to
- use professional concepts of research and development
- assess critically the sourse of information
- select the appropriate models, methods and technologies and validate his/her selection
- apply the bases of research ethics

Study forms and methods

Ilmoittautuessasi tälle opintojakson toteutukselle osallistut työjärjestyksen mukaiseen opetukseen ja ohjaukseen.Opetus koostuu luennoista, omaan opinnäytetyön edistämiseen liittyvistä yksilö- ja ryhmätyöskentelystä sekä muista harjoitteista.

RDI and work-related cooperation

TKI-yhteistyö toteutuu opintojakson aikana opiskelijaan omaan opinnäytetyöhön ja sen työelämäyhteyteen kytkeytyvänä toimintana.

Opintojakso päättyy 30.4.2026. Opintojakson uusintakerrat tutkimusosaamisen ja raportoinnin tehtävien palauttamisen osalta ovat:

Student workload

5 opintopistettä tarkoittaa 135 tuntia opiskelijan työskentelyä.

Course part description

Opintojakso jakautuu 4 op:n tutkimusosaamisen osuuteen ja 1 op:n raportoinnin osuuteen.

Tutkimusosaamisen osuus jakautuu seuraavasti:
- 42 h luento-opetusta lukujärjestykseen merkittyinä aikoina 3 h viikossa.
- 66 h itsenäistä tai parityöskentelyä opintojakson kahden arvioitavan suorituksen parissa seuraavasti:
* tutkimusprosessiin tutustuminen
* opinnäytetyön tietoperustan laadinta

Raportoinnin osuuteen kuuluu 7 * 1,5 h opetusta lukujärjestykseen merkittyinä aikoina + oppimistehtäviä, yhteensä 27 h.

Opintojakso tukee opinnäytetyöprosessin etenemistä.

Opintojakso kannattaa siten ajoittaa siten, että aloitat sen suorittamisen viimeistään silloin kun aloitat opinnäytetyön ideointi- ja suunnitteluopintojakson.

Assessment methods and criteria

Tutkimusosaamisen (4 op) osuus arvioidaan 1-5. Osuuden hyväksytty suorittaminen edellyttää seuraavia asioita:

- Osallistuminen lähiopetukseen ja aktiivisuus opetuksessa
- Tutkimusprosessiin perehtyminen kirjallisen materiaalin sekä opinnäytetyön tekijän haastattelun avulla (noin 2 sivua).
- Oman opinnäytetyön tietoperusta (noin 8-10 sivua).

Raportoinnin osuus arvioidaan hyväksytty/hylätty. Osuuden hyväksytty suorittaminen edellyttää määräajassa palautettuja suorituksia ja aktiivista osallistumista lähiopetukseen.
