Telecommunication Laboratories (3cr)

Objective

In this module you will obtain experience in making practical laboratory experiments and measurements with telecommunications equipment such as electrical and optical cables, PCM equipment, modulators, modems and switching equipment. You will also do some computer simulations of telecommunications technologies.

Content

Coaxial cables, fibre optic communications, pulse amplitude modulation, pulse code modulation, IQ modulation, synchronisation, error correction and line codes, PDH and SDH transmission systems.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

You must attend at least 9 laboratory exercises or computer exercises/simulations. Every group must return a common report about each lab. About computer exercises and simulations you will make an individual report. The grade will be based on the exam and on the reports.
