Objectives

After the training, you will be familiar with the key current trends and developments in the field. You will master the essential methods used in technical research and development and be able to apply them.

Degree programme description

The training includes key current content on power grids, energy technology, and electric drives, as well as the skills necessary for supervisors in the electrical field. It also covers research and development methods applicable in the field of technology.

You can choose complementary competence studies from a wide supply of Xamk Master School’s common studies according to your interests. 

These common studies cover courses both in Finnish and English and include the following:  
• Digitality and technology in society
• International operating environments and communication
• Management, leadership and entrepreneurship
• Research and development
• Language studies

You can also choose complementary competence studies from other universities, if they are at the level of master’s degree.  

In case you have previously completed studies at the level of EQF 7, and they match the objectives of the degree, they can be accredited as part of your studies. More information is provided by the Degree Programme Coordinator. 

Implementation of studies

The studies take place at the Mikkeli campus through in-person instruction and, where applicable, via remote learning using the Teams application. The courses also include assignments to be submitted online and additional online materials. The thesis plays a central role in the degree program. Thesis supervision is conducted through Teams discussions with the thesis supervisor and mandatory seminar days (topic seminar, content seminar, and final seminar).

Career opportunities

The training provides the formal qualifications needed for positions requiring an advanced university degree. After completing the training, you will enhance your opportunities to work in supervisory and expert roles in the field.

RDI and cooperation with world of work

Mikkeli's electrical engineering program has strong connections with power companies in Eastern Finland and is also involved in ongoing research projects in the field. The knowledge and expertise gained from these projects are utilized in our training.
