Degree Programme in Environmental Technology
Objectives
In environmental technology education, you will get a broad understanding of the different areas of environmental technology. You study environmental health, residential health and construction health, and environmental monitoring and environmental sampling. The aim of the course is to learn how to identify, prevent and eliminate health problems in the living environment. Learn about indoor health effects, indoor air problems, and other indoor issues. In addition, the aim is to become familiar with the methods used in environmental monitoring and to take and analyze various environmental samples. You will also learn how to use measured data as part of your models and assess environmental and health risks based on information from various sources. Studies also include internships that will prepare you for work and help you network. After graduation, you will be able to work in expert roles, including in industry, engineering and consulting firms, and in municipal and government services.
Degree programme description
The contents of the training are designed to meet the needs of working life. In the first year you study eg. circular economics, basic science studies, and basics in environmental sampling and environmental health. During the second year you study eg. basic principles of residential health and environmental monitoring; In the third year, you can choose additional studies that interest you and thus build your own career path. In addition to additional studies in environmental technology education, you can supplement your knowledge with other professional studies, studies, internships, and theses. Implementation of studies
The full-time studies of environmental technology take place during weekdays, from Monday to Friday. The studies also involve a lot of practical laboratory work.
Career opportunities
Environmental engineers can work for both the private and public sector. You can work for industry, engineering and consultancy agencies, municipalities or for the state in a variety of environmental and environmental health expert and authority duties. Because environmental technology is a cross-disciplinary field and environmental issues need to be taken into account in all sectors, possible duties can vary considerably, and the employment prospects are good.
RDI and cooperation with world of work
Research, development and innovations have a strong role in the teaching of the Degree Programme in Environmental Technology. Your studies, practical training and bachelor’s thesis can involve participating in various projects.
An increasing part of the studies in environmental technology engineering is carried out through the so-called working life project studies. They involve cooperating with different companies independently or in groups.
Learning environments
The Degree Programme in Environmental Technology has a very versatile and well-equipped environmental laboratory. It mainly operates as a teaching laboratory, but also serves as a facility for active research and development.
Studies in environmental technology include many courses with practical laboratory work. This involves, for example, various chemistry and microbiology related laboratory work as well as environmental measurements and analyses.
