Objective

You will know how to use systematically the physical concepts concerning mechanics and heat and fluid flow. You can apply the concepts for example to dimensioning calculationsin fluid technics and in calculating heat loads and requirements for energy and power. You can distinguish different heat transfer mechanisms and calculate heat flow rates and coefficients of heat transfer. You can describe effects of thermal expansion in environmental technology applications.

Content

You will study phenomena and laws of nature in mechanics, thermal physics and fluid flow. You will learn the definitions of different quantities used in mechanics and thermal physics. You will learn to use the SI-units. You develop your scientific thinking by applying different laws and equations to solve physical problems in mechanics and thermal physics. You will also learn to measure different quantities in laboratory, to treat the measurement data and to report the results. You will study the factors contributing in defining the requirements for energy and power in heating systems and fluid technology.
