Sustainable Product Design (5cr)

Objective

You can validate your selections in product design and product development considering principles of sustainable development and ecodesign strategies. You can combine elements of sustainable development in a product design phase as a functional end product. You can estimate and analyze environmental impacts of a product in the product’s life-cycle using environmental assessment tools. You can design and develop a product towards less environmental burdening, emissions and waste. You are able to use and specify computer aided design programs, life cycle assessment tools, databases and softwares in product design and product development. You are able to estimate the ecology of product as a part of product design and life cycles. You can apply principles of sustainability in a product design and product development.

Why principles of sustainability and sustainable development are risen so important part of product design and product development nowadays? What and how decisions of sustainable development can be used in a product design and product development? What ecological solutions and ecodesign strategies there are and can be used in a product design and product development? What programs, databases and tools are there to be used in a sustainable product design and product development?

Assessment criteria, good (3)

a. use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations.  c. work as team members in working life expert duties and identify and describe the problems of the professional field. d. evaluate operations in customer, user and target group situations. e. choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices.  g. apply critically the ethical principles of the professional field in different situations.
