Objective

Students master the timeline of history where developments in art are concerned, as well as the social context of different periods in art, from prehistory to the present. In the history of visual communication, students learn to understand the significance of their own field of expertise.

Content

The course consists of lectures and other materials designed to assist the development of students in the field - for example, films may be shown, photographs, material from television, fine art, poster art, graphic design and interactive story telling disciplines.  These differing contributions enable students to perceive their own professional field as part of the development of visual communication and the development of social phenomena. The course is divided into subsections: - Art history from prehistoric times to modern times (2 cr) - Poster art and graphics in the history of isms since the 1800's (1 cr) - Film, photography and television history from the 1800s (2 cr)
