Objective

• You can observe different environmental factors that can strengthen or threaten the health.
• You can promote healthy, safe and unimpeded environment for several age groups.
• You can collaborate in several extraordinary situations of environmental health care and states of emergency.
• You can apply national and international laws and directions connected to infectious diseases prevention and treatment.
• You master the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases in Finland and can advise a client in that.
• You have passed the national Advanced course in vaccination (1 ECTS credit)
• You can counsel communities and population in prevention of accidents.

• How does the environment affect health and well-being?
• What are the most common health risks of living and housing environments?
• In what kind of situations does a public health nurse collaborate with the environmental health care?
• What are the laws and directions related to infectious diseases?
• What are the main infectious diseases in different age group and how do you prevent and care the patients?
• What are the factors and situations related to infectious diseases that increase the risks in different age groups?
• How can home and leisure time accidents be prevented?

Evaluation

Students can
• logically use professional concepts, make information searches by using main information sources
• understand the wholeness of the given tasks related to environmental health care

The course includes the deepening of the national vaccination Competence 1 cr online course. The online course includes the following topics:Ethics of vaccination, vaccination safety, effectiveness of vaccination, vaccination and guidance of immigrants, guidance of pregnat women and vaccination, vaccination at tourism.
