Objective

After completion of the course, the student is able to compose an academic thesis in English. In more detail, they are able to consider the communicative target of the thesis and needs of the readers, to plan the overall structure of the thesis, to compose logical chapters and paragraphs with good cohesion and coherence, use appropriate style in the language, utilize various style guides and other tools in the writing process, and refer to sources appropriately.

Content

various research approaches various overall report structures audience analysis drafting prose of a paragraph:  general-to-specific principle, topic sentences graphic elements in text (figures and tables) and data commentary text cohesion: pronouns, generic words, relative clauses and connector words typical research vocabulary style: academic style vs. everyday style, consistency of style, features of grammar and vocabulary use of verb tenses in various parts of the thesis appropriate reference practice: avoiding plagiarism, direct and indirect quotations, writing list of references.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Pass/fail. The grade is based on an exam or assignment, according to the choice of the student.
