Objective
You'll understand the carbon cycle in ecosystem, carbon sinks and carbon storages.
You’ll learn about the consequences of disruptions to the natural carbon cycle and the international efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change. You’ll understand carbon cycle as a part of bioeconomy and the possibilities of life-cycle assessment in carbon management. You’ll study examples of carbon capture and storage technologies as well as potential for carbon sequestration of forest bioeconomy. The course consists of 3 CU of theory and a 2 CU case study selected by students.
Content
How does carbon circulate in the ecosystem?
What is forest bioeconomy?
What are the consequences of the disruptions to the natural carbon cycle?
What technologies can be used in carbon capture and storage? What possibilities do new energy technologies provide? (power to X?)
How can forest bioeconomy be utilized in carbon sequestration?
