Objective

Knowledge, understanding and proficiency of STCW table A-II/1 function: Navigation at the operational level. This course concentrates on learning the following competencies:
- plan and conduct a passage and determine position
- maintain a safe navigational watch
- use of radar to maintain safety of navigation
- transmit and receive information by visual signalling
- manoeuvre the ship.

Content

This course contains supervised simulator exercises, which are based on previously completed theory studies. These exercises have been grouped to form the following simulator training days, which have different themes:
- use of navigation, propulsion and manoeuvring systems and equipment
- determine position by means of terrestrial and radar navigation
- bridge watchkeeping procedures
- basic ship manoeuvring and handling
- plan and conduct a passage
- navigation in coastal and restricted waters
- competence test.

Evaluation

Students can
- identify interrelated tasks.
- use the key models, methods, software and techniques of the professional field.
- work as team members in a goal-oriented way.

Scheduled track:
Attendance at teaching and guidance sessions as specified in the schedule. Attendance at lectures and simulator training as well as completion of simulator exercises and competence test.
