Practical training: Professional basics of nursing (10cr)

Objective

Client orientation
• you are able to recognise the clients’ experiential knowledge and attend to their personal needs in basic nursing situations

Ethics and professionality in nursing
• you are able to apply the values and ethical principles of nursing in your work
• you are able to work according to the legislation and ethical guidelines related to nursing and you are able to evaluate how well the legislation and guidelines in general are followed in the field of nursing
• you are able to act without violating human rights
• you are able to assess and develop your own work and take responsibility for your actions

Clinical nursing
• you know the basics of the human body structure, functions and regulating systems and the underlying factors
• you are able to respond to a specific need of care with proper nursing methods and document them applying structurally coherent classification
• you are able to apply the Finnish Nutrition Recommendations in the prevention and care of Finnish national diseases

Evidence-based practice and decision making
• you are able to utilize nursing-related research results in your decision making
• you know how to carry out data search using the most common health science database

Quality and safety of social and health services
• you know the legislative safety requirements concerning health care and legislation on patient safety
• you understand your professional responsibility and are able to ensure and promote patient safety
• you know your professional responsibility for ensuring and promoting safe operating environment

• identification of ethical problems
• nursing as a profession and the use of one’s own personality in nursing

Clinical nursing
• nursing interventions (e.g. FinCC)
• national standardized electronic nursing documentation
• aseptic technique
• pharmacological treatment, dosage calculation
• nutrition therapy as part of the patient’s overall treatment

Evidence-based practice and decision making
• Problem solving process
• Evaluation of the nursing process
• Documentation practices in nursing
• Utilization of research knowledge

Quality and safety of social and health services
• ergonomics
• prevention, recognition and management of hazardous situations
• patient safety: equipment, treatment and medication safety
• extended obligation of confidentiality and data protection, patients’ right to access their own medical records
• security risks
• information systems and their use in patient information recording
• documentation and reporting

Evaluation

Assessment criteria level 3, competence during the completion phase.
You know how to:
a. use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way
b. evaluate information sources critically
c. work as a team member in expert duties and identify and describe the problems of the professional field
d. evaluate operations in customer, user and target group situations
e. choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices
f. promote the team’s goal-oriented operation
g. apply critically the ethical principles of the professional field

Study forms and methods

Työviikkopohjainen oppimisväylä:
Osallistut työjärjestyksen mukaiseen lähiopetukseen. Opiskelusi rytmittyvät työjärjestyksen mukaisten ryhmätapaamisten mukaan. Laboraatio-opetuksessa on 100 %:n läsnäolovelvollisuus.

Voit ahotoida opintojakson vastaavilla korkeakouluopinnoilla joko kokonaan tai osittain. Osittaisessa ahotoinnissa suoritat työviikkopohjaisena opiskeluna ne osa-alueet, joita ei ole ahotoitu.
