Objective

You are familiar with digital gaming as a social phenomenon and the research concerning it. You are also familiar with the main concepts, definitions and genres of digital gaming. You have an understanding of the different functions of gaming. You are familiar with the possibilities of digital gaming in social services. You can critically assess digital gaming, and you are familiar with its positive and negative effects on individuals' welfare. You have familiarized yourself with digital gaming.

Content

What are the concepts, definitions and genres of digital gaming? What is digital gaming as a cultural and media cultural phenomenon? What is digital gaming like in the environment of social services? What are the positive and negative effects of digital gaming on individuals' welfare?

Students can

Study forms and methods

Opintojakso rytmittyy lähiopetustyöpajojen ja itsenäisen työskentelyn vuorottelun mukaan. Opintojakson kesto on yksi lukukausi. Työpajoja ja lähitapaamisia on noin 1–2 kertaa kuukaudessa.

Opintojakso sisältää syksyllä 2020 viisi (5) lähitapaamiskertaa. Tapaamiskertojen päivämäärät ja kellonajat:
- Aloitus 9.9. klo 12.45–16.
- Toinen tapaamiskerta 30.9. klo 12.45–16.
- Kolmas tapaamiskerta 28.10. klo 12.45–16.
- Neljäs tapaamiskerta 18.11. klo 12.45–16.
- Viides tapaamiskerta 16.12. klo 12.45–16.

Assessment methods and criteria

Arviointimeneltelminä jatkuva palautekeskustelu, arviointikeskustelu sekä itsearviointi.
Arvioinnin perusteena: i) oppimisaineistojen omaksuminen, ii) kyky osoittaa tietoaineiston omaksumista ja yhdistämistä opiskelijan omaan ajatteluun suullisesti ja/tai kirjallisesti hyvässä kielellisessä muodossa, iii) kyky osoittaa tietopohjaisesti perusteltua kriittistä ajattelua ja iv) taito muotoilla oma kirjallinen tuotos tieteellisen kirjoittamisen tyyliä ja vaatimuksia noudattaen.
