Objective

Learning the practical skills and completing approved simulator training based on prior STCW code tables A-II/1 and A-II/2 studies.

Content

Supervised simulator exercises based on prior studies in the following subject areas:
- plan passages and conduct navigation
- ship manoeuvring in restricted and shallow waters
- ship manoeuvring and anchoring in VTS areas
- arrival to and departure from port
- basic ship handling; berthing and unberthing
- ship manoeuvring and handling in challenging conditions
- competence test

Evaluation

Students can
- work as team members in working life expert duties and identify and describe the problems of the professional field
- use the key models, methods, software and techniques of the professional field
- promote teams’ goal-oriented operation
- justify their actions according to the ethical principles of the professional field

In addition, STCW code tables A-II/1 and A-II/2 columns 4 criteria for evaluating competence as specified in prior studies are used in assessment.

You will attend simulator training sessions as specified in the schedule and perform competence demonstration.

Assessment methods and criteria

100 % attendance at simulator training and approved completion of simulator exercises and competence test.

Prior studies:
- Terrestrial navigation 2
- ARPA (A-II/1, A-II/2)
- ECDIS (A-II/1, A-II/2)
- Radio English
- Maritime radio systems and ship radio station, GOC
- Control systems of the ship
- Simulator training at the operational level 1

Further information

Participation in all lessons and training sessions is obligatory.
