Objective

You learn to:
- recognize historical development in the history of costumes, fashion and styles in different times/eras
- see costumes and clothing in specific times/eras as part of culture and society as a whole
- master the basic concepts of costume and fashion history
- utilise your knowledge of costume and fashion history by adopting ideas from history to your designs – both in clothing/fashion design as well as in costume design
- recognize stylistic means used in scenography and know the history of costume design and scenography in Finland

How does your knowledge of clothing and fashion of a certain historic time/era help you understand the culture and society of that time?
How can you benefit from the vast pictorial material available when familiarising with a specific topic and processing new information?
How can you deepen your knowledge of a specific time/ era or phenomenon and how can you exploit it in your own design work?

Opiskelumateriaali

Study materials in Finnish and especially in English.
Study materials are books, articles and videos about period costume, all shared in Learn platform. Teachers lectures (slides) are also principal study material.

Studies can follow different tracks depending on students’ situations in life. There are three different tracks for the studies: scheduled track, independent track and blended track

This is a theoretical study on period costume. Examples from worklife are included in the study.
