Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- basics of marine fuels and lubricants
- fuel & lubricant properties and additives
- storing and handling of fuels and lubricants
- select proper oil products for different purposes
- operate and manage bunker procedures safely on board
- environment protection and operational safety

Content

- compositions of marine fuels and lubricants
- production and additives
- ISO 8217 bunker oil and distillate standard
- choosing oil products for different purposes and conditions
- testing on board and ashore
- bunkering procedures and regulations
- managing bunker operations
- operational safety and environment protection

Evaluation

Students can
- use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations
- work as team members in working life expert duties and identify and describe the problems of the professional field
- evaluate operations in customer, user and target group situations
- promote teams’ goal-oriented operation

In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-III/2 column 4 are used:
- explanation and understanding of design features and operating mechanisms are appropriate
- fuel and ballast operations meet operational requirements and are carried out so as to prevent pollution of the marine environment
