Objective

You master the key concepts and calculations of chemistry.

You know how different kind of matter is constructed and how this affects the properties of the matter.

You know the basics of reaction chemistry.

You know the principles of good laboratory practices and you are able to work accordingly.

You know the basic laboratory equipment and you are able to use it.

You understand the safety issues associated with laboratory work.

You know how to read and understand safety data sheets.

Content

What are the basic chemical quantities, units, definitions and natural laws?

How is matter constructed and what are the properties of chemical substances?

What are the key concepts of reaction chemistry?

What are good laboratory practices and how to work accordingly in the laboratory?

What are the basic equipment of the laboratory and how is it used?

What are the safety issues associated with laboratory work?

What are safety data sheets and how do you read them?

Evaluation

Students can

a. use professional vocabulary systematically.

b. look for information in the key information sources of the field.

c. identify interrelated tasks.

e. use the key models, methods, software and techniques of the professional field.

f. work as team members in a goal-oriented way.

g. justify their actions according to the ethical principles of the professional field.
