Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- operation principles and service of passenger and service lifts
- hydraulic power packs and control systems of ramps and lifts
- cargo cranes and liquid cargo equipment
- electric and hydraulic deck machines
- work safety with lifts and other elevating gear
- service contracts

Content

- passenger and service lifts and their maintenance
- other on-board lifting gear
- deck machinery: cranes, winches, other electric equipment on the deck
- cargo handling gear, such as cargo cranes, ramps and lifting devices, liquid cargo handling equipment

Evaluation

Students can
- use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations
- choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices

In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-III/6 column 4 are used:
- the effect of malfunctions on associated plant and systems is accurately identified, ship’s technical drawings are correctly interpreted, measuring and calibrate instruments are correctly used and actions taken are justified
- isolation, dismantling and re-assembly of plant and equipment are in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines
- operations are planned and carried out in accordance with operating manuals, established rules and procedures to ensure safety of operations
- actions taken leads to the restoration of deck machinery and cargo-handling equipment by the method most suitable and appropriate to the prevailing circumstances and conditions
- operation of equipment and system is in accordance with operating manuals
- performance levels are in accordance with technical specifications
