Objective

You master the legislation, information guidance and process of medication.

You can apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology, applied pharmacology and medication in planning, implementing and assessing safe medication when treating different clients and illnesses.

You recognise the most common side effects and medicine interactions.

You know the main effects of medicines on the human system (pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics).

You can perform medication calculations safely.

You can use medication equipment appropriately, safely, economically and in line with sustainable development.

You know the basics of fluid therapy.

Content

Which laws and acts govern medication?

What is the content of medication plans in different wards?

What are the basics of pharmacology (pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and toxicology)?

What are the therapeutical effects, side effects and drug interactions in medication?

What are the most common medicine groups and their modes of use, effects and methods of administration?

How do you implement medical treatment through different routes of administration?

How do you use different equipment in medication?

How do you implement guidance in medication?

How do you record, monitor and assess medication?

What are nurses' roles and responsibilities in medication?

How is technology used in medication?

How do you master different ways in medication calculations?

How do you plan and perform fluid therapy?

Students can

Study forms and methods

Your studies will be structured according to the given schedule. Contact teaching hours includes exercises in medication management skills, theory instruction, group work, and calculation exercises.

RDI and work-related cooperation

The course provides you with a good foundation for participating in medication management competency tests organized by your employer, and for safely performing medication management tasks in the workplace.

Timing of exams and assignments

The course includes an exam in both theory and medication calculation. If you fail the exam, you can retake it twice on separately announced dates.

International cooperation

Not included.

Student workload

The student's workload is a total of 135 hours, divided into independent study and contact study.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam serves as the basis for the numerical grade, and you must also actively participate in the exercises in the contact hours.
Medication calculations are assessed as passed/failed.
