Objective

• You can describe various research methods applied to RDI tasks and participate in research project tasks.
• You can use various research methods and RDI techniques to develop products, services, processes, and organisations.
• You can plan and conduct applied research and RDI projects ethically using trustworthy data, relevant research methods of data collection and data analysis.

Content

• What qualitative, quantitative, and action (processual) research methods are applied to RDI tasks?
• What research methods and RDI techniques should be used in the development of products, services, processes, and organisations?
• How to select trustworthy data, relevant research methods of data collection and data analysis in applied business research and RDI projects?

Evaluation

• Students can
o find, study, produce and assess critically multidisciplinary data in their field of expertise.
o solve demanding problems in research, development and innovation activities.
o assess different strategic approaches and justify their use in terms of management.

Study forms and methods

This course is designed to provide the student with extended understanding of the research process and with the needed skills and knowledge on different research methodologies. The course teaches how to plan, design, carry out and report on relevant research projects. Through the course, the students will design research questions, analyse thesis, formulate bases data collection and conduct some preliminary data analysis.

Timing of exams and assignments

Assessment for the course will be continuous and is carried throughout the different course activities. Each assessment task is weighted in relation to its importance in the overall assessment of the course. The student’s results from the different assessment tasks are added up to a total course score that will then translate into the final grade for the course.
Assessment tasks
The course contains the following weighted assessment tasks ( changes possible):
1. Research problem formulation
2. Qualitative research assignment (2 different)
3. Quantitative research assignment (1-2 different)
4. Analyzing a Master Thesis
5. Writing Master Thesis plan/ project plan

International cooperation

Course is open only PGD students.

Student workload

Lectures / seminars including small individual and pair/group assingment during the lectures
Studying independently materials
Completing assignments and mandatory exercises (all individual tasks)

Course part description

Students will conduct various assignments relating to conducting research, such as how to collect reliable data (qualitative and quantitative), analyse data and make conclusion.
By end of the course students will either write a Thesis plan or project plan for an organization. This plan will include, for instance formulating a research questions, brief literature research on the selected topic and methodological consideration

Assessment methods and criteria

No exam. Each course assignments will be evaluated based on specific criteria matrix.
