Objective

You know the general stages of the research and development process.
You can systematically search for information in the key information environments of your own field.
You can read, critically evaluate and utilize the literature and research publications of your own field.
You are familiar with and able to apply the principles of research ethics and reliability.
You can compose a literature review based on the materials published in your field of study and your own bachelor’s thesis following the principles of scientific communication.

You are familiar with and can apply the key development approaches and/or research methods and ethical principles in your own field.

Content

What are the stages of a research and development process?
How do you find, read and critically evaluate the research data in your own field?
How do you compile a literature review that utilizes reliable research data and is linked to your own field and bachelor’s thesis following the principles of ethical scientific communication?

What are the key research topics and development needs in your own field?
What are the development approaches and/or research methods in your own field and how do you apply them in practice to meet the development needs of your own field?
How do you report a research or development process following the principles of ethical professional and scientific communication in your own field?
Evaluation
Students can
a. systematically use professional vocabulary of research and development
b. look for information in the key information sources of the field
e. use the key models, methods, software and techniques of the professional field
g. justify their actions according to the ethical principles of the professional field.

The student is required to study the following literature/The following literature is used in the course

• Plag, I., Braun, M., Lappe, S., & Schramm, M. 2009. Introduction to English linguistics (2nd ed.). Berlin: Mouton de Guyter.
Other study materials are provided by the teacher in class or via the Learn platform.
Study forms and methods
• The course is mainly carried out by way of unscheduled online study but it also has scheduled campus and online lessons. Participation in scheduled lessons is mandatory. Participation in the start session is mandatory. The teacher provides guidance during scheduled online lessons.
• Studies are carried out on the Learn platform. Access to the platform opens on the starting day of the course.
• Progress is made by completing assignments individually and taking an exam/exam + completing RDI report in groups
• The assignments must be submitted by the given deadlines.
• Feedback is provided by different methods, in writing and/or orally.
• The course consists of three parts.
RDI and work-related cooperation
The assignments are based on the needs of operators in the field.
A project based research reportassignment is completed in groups
Timing of exams and assignments
Part 1 & 2 consists online exams, quizzes and writing tasks. Part 3 consists learning research methods and writing a RDI report.
International cooperation
No direct international collaboration.
Student workload
• 1 ECTS credits equals 27 hours of work by the student.
• In a 5-credit course, with approx. 10h classes and total maximum workload is approximately 135 hours including lessons, group work and independent study.
