Objective

You can act appropriately in various communication situations.
You are familiar with Xamk's instructions for written assignments and know how to make use of them.
You are able to search reliable information and use it ethically.
You can read and interpret expert texts and combine their content with your own text.
You know how to write texts that meet the standards for layout, content and style required in your studies and in the world of work.
You can prepare and deliver a coherent and appropriate expert presentation.
You can give and receive feedback and use it in your own learning.

Content

What role do communication and interaction play in your studies and the world of work?
What interaction skills are required in your own studies and in your future profession?
How do you search reliable information from different sources and use it ethically?
Which written skills (genres, styles, tools) should you master?
How do you explain your views appropriately in standard language?
How do you prepare and deliver a spoken presentation?
How do you assess your own presenting skills and manage stage fright?
What skills do you need in different group communication situations?
How do you give feedback and use feedback from others?

Evaluation

The course Finnish communication skills takes place at the entry-level of the learning process. Assessment is primarily based on criteria b-f.

Students achieving level 3 can
b. search information from field-specific sources, treat it critically and use it ethically in their written and spoken communication
c. understand interrelated tasks and complete them as scheduled
d. and f. communicate appropriately in different situations
e. use the appropriate writing templates and referencing guidelines.

Study forms and methods

Kyseessä on opintojen alkuvaiheeseen tarkoitettu kurssi Kouvolan kampuksella.

Opintojaksolla hyödynnetään erilaisia palautteenantotapoja. Niitä voivat olla esimerkiksi kirjallinen ja suullinen palaute sekä myös vertaispalaute.

RDI and work-related cooperation

Mahdollisuus sovitusti hyödyntää opintojakson harjoitustöitä työelämäyhteistyössä.

Timing of exams and assignments

Opintojaksolla suoritetaan oppimistehtäviä ja tentti/tenttejä. Tehtävien suoritusaikataulut ja ohjeet löytyvät Learn-alustalta.

Student workload

1 op vastaa noin 27 tuntia opiskelijan työtä. Työmäärä kuitenkin riippuu opiskelutaidoista ja aiemmasta osaamisesta. 5 op:n opintojaksolla opiskelijan työmäärä on noin 135 tuntia.

Assessment methods and criteria

Arviointi suoritetaan suhteessa opintojakson osaamistavoitteisiin ja arviointikriteereihin. Opintojakson suoritukseen kuuluu kaikkien oppimistehtävien hyväksytty suoritus toteutusajan sisällä. Osa tehtävissä arvioidaan hyväksytty/hylätty ja osa 1 - 5. Koko opintojakso arvioidaan kuitenkin hyl tai 1 - 5.

Qualifications

This course is for native or advanced Finnish speakers (CERF level B2 or higher).
