General and bulk cargo operations (4cr)

Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- handling, stowaging and securing dry cargoes
- using available shipboard data related to the handling of bulk cargoes
- using of equipment and data related to ship’s attitude, hull stress and draft survey

Content

- properties of dry and bulk cargoes, quantities, calculations and draft survey
- grain cargo calculations and deck cargo
- ventilation of cargo spaces
- IMSBC and other relevant regulations
- exercises and simulations

Evaluation

Students can:
- use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations
- evaluate information sources critically
- work as team members in working life expert duties and identify and describe the problems of the professional field
- work together with customers, users and target groups
- choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices

In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-II/2 column 4 are used:
- the frequency and extent of cargo condition monitoring is appropriate to its nature and prevailing conditions
- unacceptable or unforeseen variations in the condition or specification of the cargo are promptly recognized and remedial action is immediately taken and designed to safeguard the safety of the ship and those on board
- cargo operations are planned and executed in accordance with established procedures and legislative requirements
- stowage and securing of cargoes ensures that stability and stress conditions remain within safe limits at all times during the voyage
- evaluations are based on accepted principles, well-founded arguments and correctly carried out. The decisions taken are acceptable, taking into consideration the safety of the ship and the prevailing conditions
- planned distribution of cargo is based on reliable information and is in accordance with established guidelines and legislative requirements
- information on dangers, hazards and special requirements is recorded in a format suitable for easy reference in the event of an incident

Study forms and methods

Työviikko pohjainen oppimis väylä:
Osallistut työjärjestyksen mukaisesti opetukseen ja ohjaukseen. Lastien määrän laskelmat Lastiviivaan sopimuksen 1966/88 ja laivan vakavuuden vaatimuksen mukaan. Viljan ja kaltaiset lastien laskelmat vakavuuden vaatimuksen mukaan reissun alussa ja lopussa. Draught survey. Loading NAPA ohjelman harjoittelu

Opintoja nopeuttava oppimis väylä:
Toteutus monimuoto-opetuksena OPS-suunnitelman mukaan. Tämä väylä edellyttää vahtiperämiehen tutkintoa tai vahtiperämiehen pätevyyskirjaa.

Työhön integroitu oppimis väylä:
Keskustelu opettajan kanssa ja tarvittaessa HOPS-suunnittelu yhdessä opintovastaavan kanssa.

RDI and work-related cooperation

Opintojaksolla ei suoriteta TKI opintopisteitä. Opintojaksolla käytämme eri laivojen vakavuudeen ja lastaukseen liittyviä asiakirjat ja harjoittelemme tehdä lastiplaani lastiohjelman NAPA avulla.

Timing of exams and assignments

Opintojaksolla ovat erilaiset harjoitustehtävät ja päätytentti, NAPA lastiohjelman harjoittelun.

Student workload

Opintojakson laajuus on 4 opinto pisteet (op). 1 op vastaa noin 27 tuntia opiskelijan työajaksi. Suurin osa opetustyöstä suoritaamme luokassa oppitunnilla: teoria luennot ja laskelmat, voimme arvioida sen kun noin 80% koko opintojakson työajasta, ainakin 20% pitää käydää itseopiskelun.
