Objective
Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- practical application of DC and AC calculations and analyzes
- main and auxiliary electric system functions and associated components
- recognizing of occupational safety regulations regarding electrical work on board
Content
- electrical applications of marine engineering
- generators
- transformers
- electric motors
- frequency converters and soft-starters
- on board electric systems and switchboards, protection systems and devices, batteries
- occupational safety of electrical work
Evaluation
Students can
- use professional vocabulary systematically
- use the key models, methods, software and techniques of the professional field
- justify their actions according to the ethical principles of the professional field
In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-III/1 column 4 are used:
- operations are planned and carried out in accordance with operating manuals, established rules and procedures to ensure safety of operations
- electrical, electronic and control systems can be understood and explained with drawings/instructions
- safety measures for working are appropriate
