Digital skills (5cr)

Objective

The common part (3 ECTS cr) for the bachelor's degree students of all programs:
- You know how to use Xamk`s own systems and the most common digital tools in your studies and profession.
- You will be able to create the most common documents, presentations and spreadsheets.
- You know how to work with information security mindset.

The field-specific part (2 ECTS cr):
- You know the most common digital tools and services in your professional field.
- You know how to use appropriate digital applications and utilize your skills in tasks in your field.

Content

The common part (3 ECTS cr) for the bachelor's degree students of all programs:
- Which Xamk systems do you need during your studies?
- Which information and communication technology applications do you need in your studies and profession?
- How to create the most common documents using word processing, presentation graphics and spreadsheets?
- What is meant by information security and how to work securely in your studies and profession?

The field-specific part (2 ECTS cr):
- Which digital tools and services are used in your professional field?
- How do you use digital applications and utilize your skills in tasks in your professional field?

Evaluation

Students can
c. identify interrelated tasks.
e. use the digital tools and services needed in their studies.
g. justify their actions according to the ethical principles in the digital environments.

Course material

Study materials are provided by the teacher in class or via the Learn platform.

Study forms and methods

The course is carried out by way of contact teaching on Mikkeli campus according to a weekly schedule. Remote participation is not possible. As a rule, scheduled contact lessons are not recorded nor duplicated by online lectures.
Students make progress by attending scheduled lessons and completing tasks and assignments individually or in groups.
The course consists of 28 contact lessons and 7 individual and small-group assignments. Contact lessons include practice sessions with teacher guidance.
The assessed assignments are completed independently.
Feedback is provided by different methods. Also, peer feedback can be used.

Timing of exams and assignments

An assignment must be completed at the end of each section of the course.
There is no exam in this course.

The end date of the course is presented in the course details. By this date, the student must submit all assignments and meet all other conditions set for an approved course completion.

Student workload

1 ECTS credits equals 27 hours of work by the student.
In a 5-credit course, the student's total maximum workload is approximately 135 hours including lessons and independent study.

Further information

The student must have access to a web cam and microphone with internet connection.
M365 desktop applications are used on the course.
The field specific part includes working with spreadheets.

Assessment methods and criteria

The student’s performance is assessed with reference to the learning objectives and assessment criteria of the course.
The completion of the course requires all assignments to be completed with a passing grade.

The common part (3 ECTS cr) for the bachelor's degree students of all programs is implemented online in the Learn environment. In the field-specific (2 ECTS cr) part, the method of implementation is on-site or online studies, according to the degree program's own decision.
