Advanced neurological physiotherapy (5 cr)

Objective

You can deepen your know-how of physiotherapeutic evaluation to support neurological client´s rehabilitation as a learning process.
You can take into consideration specific features of central and peripheral nervous system diseases and benefit from multi-scientific knowledge when implementing therapy and guidance.
You can apply evidence-based physiotherapy methods when using clinical reasoning and physiotherapeutic differential diagnostics.
You can show your expertise of physiotherapy in multi-professional teams supporting a client’s functional ability and health-promoting life style.

Content

How do you choose, justify and use functional ability evaluation methods in order to support your client’s goal setting and ability to assess her own progress in different phases of rehabilitation and direct the therapy? How do you develop progressive and task-oriented exercises to a neurological client’s needs considering elements of skills, balance, strength and endurance and proportioning the exercise to the client’s mental resources? How do you guide clients of different ages and their close ones to take advantage of environmental possibilities, to support exercise outside the scheduled therapy sessions and to promote social participation? How do you work in a multi-professional team dealing with special issues of neurological diseases?
