Emergency procedures 1 (1cr)

Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- preventing, controlling and fighting fires onboard
- actions related to emergencies and launching of rescue boats and survival crafts, and using life-saving appliances
- organizing emergency drills
- taking correct and immediate actions in distress situations
- acting immediately and correctly in accident situations and accurately evaluating injury or damage
- procedures for rescuing people from the sea and assisting a ship in distress

Content

- principles of safety management and risk evaluation
- emergency management and contingency plans
- actions and procedures in distress situations
- fire fighting, fire fighting drills, fire ratings, fire fighting equipment, life-saving and associated drills
- life-saving appliances and devices
- SOLAS chapter III
- emergency management of passengers onboard
- principles of sea rescue (IAMSAR)
- IMO signals

Evaluation

Students can
- use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations
- identify interrelated tasks
- use the key models, methods, software and techniques of the professional field
- work as team members in a goal-oriented way

In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code tables A-II/1, A-III/1 and A-III/6 columns 4 are used:
- actions in responding to abandon ship and survival situations are appropriate to the prevailing circumstances and conditions and comply with accepted safety practices and standards
- the type and scale of the problem is promptly identified and initial actions conform with the emergency procedure and contingency plans for the ship

Opiskelumateriaali jaetaan toteutuksen aikana/julkaistaan Learn-ympäristössä opintojakson alkaessa

Study forms and methods

• Opetus toteutetaan kokonaan lähiopetuksena Kotkan kampuksella lukujärjestyksen mukaan. Etäosallistuminen ei ole mahdollista.
• Opintojakso koostuu neljästä luento-opetuskerrasta ja tunnilla tehtävistä yksilö- ja pienryhmätehtävistä.
• Opettajan ohjausta saatavilla lähituntien yhteydessä.
• Opintojaksolla hyödynnetään erilaisia palautteenantotapoja. Niitä voivat olla esimerkiksi kirjallinen ja suullinen palaute. Lisäksi voidaan hyödyntää myös vertaispalautteenantoa.

RDI and work-related cooperation

Kurssi saattaa sisältää ohjaustunteja, joita voidaan mahdollisesti käyttää työelämäprojekteihin tai -vierailuihin.

Timing of exams and assignments

Opintojakson viimeisellä lähiopetuskerralla tehdään tentti tietokoneluokassa.

Opintojakso päättyy toteutuksen tiedoissa ilmoitettuna aikana, johon mennessä opiskelija on palauttanut suoritukseen vaadittavat harjoitustehtävät, suorittanut mahdolliset tentit ja täyttänyt muut hyväksytyn suorituksen vaatimukset.

Student workload

1 op vastaa noin 27 tuntia opiskelijan työtä. Työmäärä kuitenkin riippuu opiskelutaidoista ja aiemmasta osaamisesta.

Assessment methods and criteria

Arviointi tehdään suhteessa opintojakson osaamistavoitteisiin ja arviointikriteereihin. Opintojakson hyväksytty suorittaminen edellyttää tentin ja tehtävien tekemistä hyväksytyllä arvosanalla.
