Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- dealing with refrigerants and refrigerating systems on-board
- occupational safety in refrigerating engineering, environmental legislation and guidelines regarding handling of refrigerants on-board
- refrigerating engineering
- energy efficiency

Content

- legislation and instructions of refrigerating engineering
- safe handling of refrigerants and refrigerant machine oils
- environmental effects of refrigerants
- dehumidification and deaeration of refrigerant systems and charging with refrigerant

Evaluation

Students can
- use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations
- choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices

In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-III/6 column 4 are used:
- operation of equipment and systems is in accordance with operating manuals
- performance levels are in accordance with technical specifications
- prevention of pollution of the marine environment
