Objective

You know the different raw water sources.
You know the different methods of supplying drinking water and treating wastewater in rural areas and can choose appropriate methods in different cases.
You know the unit operations of producing drinking water and different raw water sources.
You can analyze the key properties of clean water and wastewater.
You know wastewater treatment processes and related various unit operations.

Content

What different raw water sources are they?
How is raw water acquired and processed into drinking water (process descriptions)?
Which parameters affect the quality of water (WSP)?
How is wastewater treated, and the proper operation of the treatment system guaranteed (SSP)?
How are water supply and sanitation best organized in rural areas?
How is water analyzed in the laboratory?

Evaluation

Students can
a. use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations.
b. assess information sources critically.
e. choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices.
f. work proficiently as team members.

Course material

Material provided by the teacher on Learn platform, and possible e-literature.

Study forms and methods

The course can be included in the schedule as part of an individual learning path.
The course is implemented as time-bound lectures and laboratories. Participation in lectures is voluntary, attending laboratory work and the seminar is mandatory.
Teacher guidance is available in connection with lectures and by separate arrangement.
Studying takes place in the Learn environment. Access to the course platform opens on the day the course begins.

RDI and work-related cooperation

Visit to the local waste water treatment plant. Possible guest lecturers.

Timing of exams and assignments

A seminar in the latter part of the course, and a Learn exam at the latter part of the course.The study period ends at the time indicated in the implementation information, by which time all learning tasks, exams, and other tasks related to the completion of the study period must be completed.

Student workload

135 hours. However, the amount of work depends on your study skills and previous knowledge.

Assessment methods and criteria

The evaluation is done in relation to the competence goals and evaluation criteria of the course. Completion of the course includes the approved completion of all learning assignments.
