Intoxicant and mental health work (5 cr)

Objective

You know how to recognize the goals, activities and opportunities of preventive work relating to intoxicant use and mental health. You are able to describe and to search for information about children’s and young people’s mental health and intoxicant use. You know how to act as a youth worker in the service network of work with children’s and adolescents’ intoxicant use and mental health.

Content

What is children’s and young people’s mental health and intoxicant-free life based on? What are the most common disorders of children’s and young people’s intoxicant use and mental and the relating methods of aid? What kind of methods promote children’s and young people’s mental health and intoxicant free lifestyles and how can they be affected? With what kind of work practices can youth workers support the prevention of children’s and young people's intoxicant use and mental harm as well as their need and readiness for change?

Kylmäkoski, Pylkkänen & Viitanen (toim.) 2010: Yhteisöllisiä näkökulmia nuorten ehkäisevään päihdetyöhön.
Maunu (2012): Ryyppäämällä ryhmäksi. Ehkäisevän päihdetyön karttalehtiä nuorten ja nuorten aikuisten juomiskulttuureihin.
Soikkeli, Salasuo, Puuronen & Piispa (2011): Se toimii sittenkin – kuinka päihdevalistuksesta saa selvää.

Study forms and methods

Työviikkopohjainen oppimisväylä:
Opintojakso toteutetaan lähiopetuksena. Lähiopetus koostuu luento-opetuksesta, vierailijakäynneistä sekä yhteistoiminnallisesta oppimisesta.

Opintoja nopeuttava oppimisväylä:
Opintojakson voi toteuttaa integroituna työelämään. Tämä edellyttää aiheen kannalta (päihde- ja mielenterveystyö) soveltuvaa ympäristöä. Asiasta sovitaan etukäteen vastuuopettajan kanssa.

Työhön integroitu oppimisväylä:
Opintojakson voi suorittaa itsenäisesti verkkoympäristössä, josta löytyvät vaadittavat tehtävät ja materiaalia.
Opintojakson tunnuksen ja avaimen saat vastuuopettajalta.

Student workload

Noin 135 tuntia työskentelyä, joka koostuu vaihtoehdosta riippuen itsenäisestä työskentelystä, tiimityöskentelystä ja luento-opetuksesta.
Työviikkopohjainen väylä: Noin 48 tuntia lähiopetusta, 87 tuntia itsenäistä työskentelyä.

Assessment methods and criteria

Työviikkopohjainen väylä: arvioinnissa huomioidaan kirjalliset tehtävät sekä aktiivinen osallistuminen tiimityöskentelyyn.
Työhön integroitu väylä: arviointi tapahtuu opettaja, työelämä, opiskelija(t) kolmikantana
Opintoja nopeuttava väylä: itsenäiset tehtävät opettajan arvioimana + itsearviointi
