Objective

You can describe the meaning of health promotion.
You can name examples of health promotion.
You can recognize the main health problems and threats to wellbeing.
You know the main content of prevention of the health problems and self-care.

Content

What does health promotion mean?
How is health promoted?
What are the main health problems?
What does healthy nutrition include?
What are the physical activity recommendations?
What factors promote brain health?
How can coping with daily life be supported?

Materials

All the necessary material can be found in the online learning environment at the beginning of the course.

Teaching methods

Scheduled track:
You attend the online workshops according to your class schedule. Your timetable bases on the workshops and the assignments.
The assignments are completed individually and in small groups.

Blended track:
Blended track is possible if you can develop your skills relating to the course objectives in your work. In this case, please, contact the teacher (Sari Laanterä) before the course begins. That way it is possible to assess if
• the blended track is possible in your work.
• you need to demonstrate your competence.
• you need to attend some parts of the course to complete your competence.

If you have completed previous higher education studies or gained work experience that match the learning outcomes and content of this course, you can apply for the right to demonstrate your competence. In case you want to apply for the recognition of competence for the entire course (5 ECTS credits), you need to submit an e-application to the course teacher. In other cases, please send an informal application with certificates to the teacher via email at the beginning of the course at the latest. Please, pay attention that your email describes how your skills meet the learning outcomes and content of this course.

Independent track:
In case you choose the independent track, you can enroll in a course offered to the group that has started their studies earlier.

Exam schedules

The course has workshop assignments and you can do those according to your own schedule. In addition, there is the main assignment and that is done with colleagues.

The timetable for the assignments as well as the timetable of re-attempts is in the Learn platform. The re-attempts are in Exam-system as well as an attempt to raise the grade.

Student workload

The scope of the course is 5 cr or 135 hours.

Content scheduling

The course has lecture recordings that can be viewed at a time that suits you.

In addition, the course has workshops, the schedule of which is marked in the syllabus and participation in which is voluntary. Workshops provide an opportunity to ask questions, receive guidance, work on and present small group / independently assembled tasks.
