Objective

You are able to apply your knowledge of nutrition to support strength and endurance training and weight control.
You are able to apply your knowledge of nutrition when guiding and counseling athletes and people exercising regularly.

Content

What is the relation between nutrition and physical activity?
What is energy metabolism?
How does physical activity affect the need, supply and use of energy?
How does the balance of nutrition and fluid influence the recovery from sports and physical activities?
What aspects of nutrition must be considered, when guiding people in different physical activities?

Learning materials for independent study on the Learn eLearning environment. Studying the subjects also requires an active, independent search for information.

Teaching methods

The course is 5 ECTS credits and is carried out online in Learn eLearning environment. The course is in Finnish.

The course does not actually have working life cooperation. In the learning tasks, you should also monitor your exercise and eating habits.

The exams and learning tasks of the course must be completed / returned for evaluation during your course period.

Student workload

The course is 5 ECTS credits which means about 135 hours of independent work for students. The course includes exams and learning tasks. Learning tasks may also include discussions with other students.

Content scheduling

The content of the course consists of three topics related to:

1. Basic knowledge of nutrition (1 course credit)
2. Energy demand and consumption during exercise, energy metabolism (2 course credits)
3. Nutrition, fluid balance and recovery to support endurance and strength training and weight management (2 course credits)
