You explore historical influences in art and design, analyzing various styles and eras to inform and direct your own creative work.
You understand the historical context of games and the history of video games in relation to other forms of visual culture.
You understand the legal ramifications of using reference material.
Content
What are the major art movements throughout history, and how have they influenced design?
How have different historical eras influenced design principles and aesthetics?
What is the historical context of video games, and how have games evolved over time?
How do cultural and technological advancements influence the evolution of art, design, and games?
Evaluation
Students can
– use professional vocabulary systematically.
– look for information in the key information sources of the field.
– use the key models, methods, software and techniques of the professional field.
– justify their actions according to the ethical principles of the professional field.
Course material
• Study materials are provided by the teacher in class or via the Learn platform.
Study forms and methods
• The course is carried out by way of remote online teaching according to a schedule.
• Students make progress by attending online scheduled lessons and completing tasks and assignments individually. The course consists of 8 lessons and individual assignments.
• The teacher provides guidance during & feedback during contact lessons
• The assessed assignments are completed independently.
• Feedback is provided by different methods, in writing and/or orally. Also, peer feedback can be used.
Timing of exams and assignments
• An assignment must be completed at the end of each section of the course. There is no exam in this course.
• The course entails assignments every two weeks.
• The end date of the course is presented in the course details. By this date, the student must submit all assignments and meet all other conditions set for an approved course completion.
Student workload
• 1 ECTS credits equals 27 hours of work by the student.
• In a 5-credit course, the student has a total maximum workload of approximately 135 hours including lessons, group work and independent study.

Assessment methods and criteria
• The student’s performance is assessed with reference to the learning objectives and assessment criteria of the course. The completion of the course requires submitting all tasks for a passing grade.
