Objective

Students will acquire knowledge of the chemical and physical properties of cargoes, spontaneous reactions, hazards to human life, to vessels, and to the environment. Ability to take into account dangerous goods and their distribution in a load plan. Understanding of international regulations, codes and recommendations on the carriage of dangerous cargoes. Documentation and reporting procedures.

Content

Properties, safe transport and handling of dangerous goods. Vapour pressures of liquids and solutions, hydrostatic pressure, phases, heat expansion, density, oxidation and reduction, regulations and codes concerning carriage and loading of dangerous cargoes. IMDG-, IMSBC-, IBC- and BCH -codes

Discussion with the teacher and, where appropriate, PSP-planning with your own mentor teacher.

Teaching methods

Scheduled track:
You will attend teaching and guidance sessions as specified in the schedule.

Independent track:
You attend your study in the multi-mode education. Degree of Deck Officer, operational level (STCW A-II/1) OR Degree of Engineer Officer, operational level (STCW A-III/1) OR Certificate of Competency: Deck Officer / Engineer Officer IS REQUIRED.

Blended track:
Discussion with the teacher and, where appropriate, PSP-planning with your own mentor teacher.
