Objective
Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- applying immediate first aid in the event of accident or illness on board
- providing medical care to the sick and injured while they remain on board
- radio medical contact ashore

Study forms and methods
Study takes place in contact teaching and with a group. This learning pathway includes lectures, exercises, and online studies. Some of the studies are not tied to time and place. Final exam.
Healthcare 1 Approved performance is a prerequisite for participation.

Timing of exams and assignments
We agreed on the dates of the exams at the beginning of the course in the next few hours. The student can take the exam in the Exam when the next lessons and exercises have been successfully completed.
Healthcare 1 approved performance is a prerequisite for participation.
International cooperation
This course does not include.
Student workload
1 credit is 27 hours of student work. 2 credits is 54 hours of student work including exam preparation.
However, the amount of work depends on the study methods and previous knowledge.

Assessment methods and criteria
Participation in exercises and contact teaching 100%, individual examination are prerequisites for completing the course and obtaining a certificate.

Elementary first aid (A-VI/1-3)
Further information
- Participation in all lessons and training sessions is obligatory.
- Scoring is based on demonstrations of competence performed by the student.
- After completed the course the student will receive the certificate: "Standard of competence for seafarers designated to provide medical first aid on board ship (STCW A-VI/4-1)" (including the Manila Agreement 2010).
