Objective

After completing the principles of EU part of this course (3 credits) the student will be able to: Explain why the EU was established and what are the key events in its history Explain the roles of the EU institutions and the decision-making process Describe the key policies and current issues After completing the language technology part of this course (2 credits), the student will be able to: explain the basic concepts of language technology (writing and speech) apply tools used in proofreading use termbanks and electronic dictionaires use tools for cross-language searches use tools for machine translation (MT) explain the latest tools for speech recognition (speech to text processing)  

Content

After completing the principle of EU part of this course (3 credits) the student knows: the history of EU  the roles of the EU institutions key policies and current issues After copleting the language technology part of this course (2 credits) the student knows basic tools based on Word (as an introduction to language technology) proofreading-programs word and termbanks presentation of machine translation programs information seach (cross language) machine translation  tools for speech recogniton
