Objective

The student understands and uses orally and in writing the language at skill level A2 (2/3). The student understands sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance. The student can communicate well in everyday situations. The student: knows how to greet people, introduce colleagues, say goodbye and apologise, use small talk can express feelings, opinions, and hopes is able to give simple information concerning people, professions, and work can talk about family, everyday living knows cardinal and ordinal numbers, time, days, dates, months, and seasons is able to shop, order food and drinks, reserve a hotel room, and act as a host in restaurant can give short instructions, guide people can talk about the weather, working day, past and future, hobbies can take notes, search for relevant information, fill in forms can talk about the target country and Finland (studying, economy, etc.) can talk about education, student exchange, partner institutions can take part in a job interview

Content

The study unit contains communication situations and vocabulary at skill level A2 (2/3). The language structures include: verbs: present tense, imperative, imperfect, perfect and past perfect tense, phrasal verbs, infinitive + zu, passive voice, conditional adjectives: comparison, inflection nouns: gender, nominative, accusative and dative, genitive, negative article prepositions: prepositions requiring the accusative and/or dative and genetive pronouns: personal pronouns, possessive pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, interrogative pronouns and relative pronouns clauses: declarative sentences, direct questions,subordinate clauses numerals  

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The targets of the assessment are described in the implementation of the course. Scale: Excellent (5), good (4-3), pass (2-1),  fail (0). Grades 3-5 require language skills in the European A2 level. Active participation in the tuition is a prerequisite for passing the course. Active participation means the following:   the student attends 75% of the amount of contact lessons unless the course implementation informs otherwise.  The language lecturers record attendances in attendance registers. A course that is failed due to too many absences cannot be resat by retaking the exam. Instead, the student has to attend the course again. the student makes sure that they have the study material (e.g. the textbook) specified in the curriculum. the student takes part in the activities instructed by the lecturer in the contact lessons. the student completes the given homework according to the lecturer's instructions and on time.
