English Preparatory Course 1Laajuus (3 cr)

Objective

After completion of the course, the student is able to: assess the strengths and weaknesses of their learning skills use various language learning methods Their skills level in receptive skills should be at least level B1, and production skills at level A2 (Common European Framework Reference Levels). They are able to pronounce English in an intelligible way despite some errors use basic everyday vocabulary describe in speech their background, immediate environment, and workplace. use simple structures fairly correctly produce simple, fairly understandable but often fragmentary text

Content

 chatting, small talk, raising the courage to speak text-based study (including reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing etc. tasks)  stategic language skills (using circumlocutions, requesting for help in understanding, confirmation checks and requests) English sounds (pronunciation instructions) basic structures : pronouns, simple and progressive verb forms, tenses, negative and interrogative sentences, polite requests, modal auxiliaries, comparison of adjectives and adverbs, conjucts,  formal subject, indirect speech, be and have, place expressions ,  article, genitive, plural of nouns
