Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- structures and operating principles of various power electronic converters and transducers
- electric motor drives and their design criteria
- understanding the importance of regulated parameters in shipboard electrical power supply and maintenance
- component selection, control and protection criteria

Content

- operating principles of electronic converters and transducers in shipboard electrical network
- characteristics, design, operation and protection of electric motor drives in a ship’s electric network
- influence of power electronic devices on the grid and reduction of interference in the ship’s electrical network

Evaluation

Students can
- use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations
- choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices

In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-III/6 column 4 are used:
- operations are planned and carried out in accordance with operating manuals, established rules and procedures to ensure safety of operations
