Objective
Knowledge of the structure and operation of various types of ship machinery, an understanding of their roles as parts of the system. The student will acquire basic knowledge of marine piping systems, including knowledge of basic pumping and heating (boiler) procedures and systems. The course also includes maintenance of boilers and piping systems in general, safety regulations, and safe working procedures.
Content
Propulsion systems, shaft line, deck and steering gear machines. Generation of electrical energy and electrical systems. Hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Regular maintenance procedures. Safety regulations. Construction of pipelines with fittings, materials, and outfit. Different types of common pumps and their characteristics. Cargo piping systems, ballast and discharge piping systems, sea and freshwater systems, and machinery pipe systems in general.
