Objective
After successful completion of this course, student will:understand the basics of Finnish geologycan determine the properties of soil layers both by touch and in the laboratorycan estimate the possibility of ground frost and estimate the hydraulical properties of the soilunderstand the basic principles of soil mechanicscan complete geotechnical calculationsunderstand the basics of various map and coordinate systemsare able to choose suitable surveying and measurement methods for projectscan use most common measuring devicescan complete basic geodetic calculations

Main contents of the course Finnish geology classification of soil geotechnical conditions and properties classification of rock and soil subsoil ground water ground frost and frost heave basic principles of soil mechanics and rock mechanics coordinate systems benchmarks and reference points surveying and layout marking vertical survey (levelling) and other measuring methods on site calculations in geodetic and surveying.
