Osaamistavoitteet

In this module you will learn the basics of radio waves and cellular networks. You will understand the general principles of radio wave propagation and the fading and echo problems caused by multipath propagation. You will know the most important corrective measures against the multipath problems. You will understand different multiple-access methods and learn detailed examples of the technologies and services of practical cellular networks and satellite positioning systems.

The structure and principles of cellular networks, propagation of radio waves, multipath propagation. Multiple-access methods FDMA, TDMA and CDMA. Second-generation and third-generation cellular networks, satellite-based mobile telephone systems and satellite positioning systems.

Written individual assignment and an exam. The grade will be based on the exam (80%)and on the assignment (20%). Attending the lectures is not compulsory.
